Bhibha Choudhary - An unsung scientist - charcoal pencil sketch


Today I came across a news item in The Telegraph about Bhibha Choudhary, an unsung woman scientist.  I picked up my charcoal pencil and drew the sketch of Bhibha Choudhary,  

I understand from the article that Bhibha Choudhury was wedded to physics and led a quiet, modest and dignified life within the confines of her laboratory.

Nilmani Phookan Jr. - Jnanpith awardee - charcoal pencil sketch

My charcoal pencil sketch as a part of my drawing eminent personalities.


Nilmani Phookan Jr was born on 10 September 1933 in Dergaon, Assam. He started his professional writing career in the 1950s and took Assamese poetry to new heights. Inspired by nature, history, the lives of ordinary people and varied emotions such as pain and longing, Phookan’s poetry has forged a connect with the people of the state.

Awards and recognition :

  • In December 2021, the prolific poet and writer Nilmani Phookan received the prestigious Jnanpith Award  for his lifetime contribution in literature.
  • In 1997, Phookan was awarded the Assam Valley Literary Award.

Pratibha Ray
 (born 21 January 1944) is an Indian academic and writer of Odia-language novels and stories. For her contribution to the Indian literature, Ray received the Jnanpith Award in 2011. She was awarded the Padmba Bhushan  in 2022.

Tributes to Ashapurna Devi, a prominent Bengali novelist and poet, whose works were marked by her fervent beliefs in equality and justice for women.

Through her writings, she became the voice of millions of Indian women.

In 1976, she was awarded the Jnanpith Award and Padma Shri by the Government of India, D.Litt. by the Universities of Jabalpur, Rabindra Bharati, Burdwan and Jadavpur.

Chaudhary Charan Sibngh - charcoal pencil sketch



My charcoal pencil sketch of Chaudhary Charan Singh, champion of peasants.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was an Indian politician and a freedom fighter. He served as the 5th prime minister of India and 5th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Charan Singh followed Mahatma Gandhi in non-violent struggle for independence from the British Government, and was imprisoned several times.

He was recently conferred Bharatratna, highest civilian award of India.
