According to Wikipedia Syed Ishtiaq Ahmed Jaffrey, better known by his stage name Jagdeep, was an Indian actor and comedian who appeared in more than 400 films. He played Soorma Bhopali in Sholay, Machchar in Purana Mandir, Salman Khan's dad in Andaz Apna Apna and directed the film Soorma Bhopali, with his character as the protagonist.

According to Wikipedia Kesarbai Kerkar (13 July 1892 – 16 September 1977) was an Indian classical   vocalist of the Jaipur-Atrauli gharana. A protege of Ustad Alladiya Khan (1855–1946), the founder of the gharana, from age sixteen, she went on to become one of the most noted khayal singers of the second half of the 20th century.[2][3][4]

She was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1953, followed by Padma Bhushan is the third highest civilian award in India, in 1969.

Rambhadracharya - Pencil sketch


In 2015, Rambhadracharya was awarded Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian honour. Rambhadracharya has been honoured by several leaders and politicians, including A. P. J. Abdul KalamSomnath ChatterjeeShilendra Kumar Singh, and Indira Gandhi. Several state governments, including that of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Himachal Pradesh have conferred honours on him. In 2021, he was also awarded with Kendra Sahitya Academy Fellowship. On 17 February 2024 Rambhadracharya was named a recipient (along with Gulzar) of the 58th Jnanpith Award (for 2023).

My charcoal pencil sketch of Basanti Devi, an unsung heroine of the Indian freedom struggle.

According to Wikipedia Basanti Devi (23 March 1880 – 7 May 1974) was an Indian independence activist during the British rule in India. She was the wife of activist Chittaranjan Das. After Das' arrest in 1921 and death in 1925, she took an active part in various political and social movements and continued with social work post-independence. She was awarded the Padma Vibhushan in 1973.

Following her husband, Basanti Devi took part in various movements like the Civil disobedience movement and the Khilafat Movement and also participated in the Nagpur session of the Indian National Congress in 1920.

Asima Chatterjee (23 September 1917 – 22 November 2006) was an Indian organic chemist  o noted for her work in the fields of organic chemistry organic phytomedicine and .Her most notable work includes research on vinca alkaloids, the development of anti-epileptic drugs, and development of anti-malarial drugs. She also authored a considerable volume of work on medicinal plants  of the Indian subcontinent.  She was the first woman to receive a Doctorat of Science  from an Indian university.

Rajeshwari Chatterjee was an Indian scientist and an academic. She was the first woman engineer from Karnataka. During her tenure at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Chatterjee was a professor and later chairperson of the department of Electrical Communication Engineering. 

She was born on January 24, 1922 and died on September 3, 2010.

Nilmani Phookan Jr. - Jnanpith awardee - charcoal pencil sketch

Nilmani Phookan Jr was born on 10 September 1933 in Dergaon, Assam. He started his professional writing career in the 1950s and took Assamese poetry to new heights. Inspired by nature, history, the lives of ordinary people and varied emotions such as pain and longing, Phookan’s poetry has forged a connect with the people of the state.

Awards and recognition :

  • In December 2021, the prolific poet and writer Nilmani Phookan received the prestigious Jnanpith Award  for his lifetime contribution in literature.

Chaudhary Charan Singh was an Indian politician and a freedom fighter. He served as the 5th prime minister of India and 5th Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Charan Singh followed Mahatma Gandhi in non-violent struggle for independence from the British Government, and was imprisoned several times.

He was recently conferred Bharatratna, highest civilian award of India.

He started acting in 1952 and was the first sportsman to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha (upper house) of India. He worked as Hindi and Punjabi film producer, director and writer, and he acted in films and television. His role of Hanuman in the film Bajrangbali (1976) and in Ramanand Sagar's Ramayan made him popular.[4] Singh was inducted into the Legacy Category of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2018.

Saraswati Rane
 (October 4, 1913 - October 10, 2006) was an Indian classical singer in the Hindustani Classical genre. She was a daughter of Ustad Abdul Karim Khan (1872–1937), the founder of Kirana Gharana. Her family had a long and great music tradition. She got her initial training of vocal music of the Kirana Gharana style from her elder brother Sureshbabu Mane and elder sister Hirabai Barodekar, who themselves were the doyen of Indian classical music of their times. Later she also sang along with elder sister, Hirabai Bododekar, especially in jugalbandi style.
