Pt. Vijaya Raghava Rao - Pencil drawing

My pencil work of Pandit Vijaya Raghava Rao on the eve of his death anniversary on Nov. 30. My tribute.

He was an Indian flutist, composer, choreographer, musicologist, poet, fiction writer, etc. He was awarded the Padma Sri by Govt. of India and the Sangeet Natak Akademy in Creative and Experimental music category. He composed music for numerous documentaries of Films Division.

Panditji’s creative works in the realms of dance, orchestral composition and film music are recognized for an energizing originality that is often perceived to extend the boundaries of the artistic idiom. His compositions in dance and music have set trends, recognized worldwide with awards, and permeated musical expression in cultural media such as film, ballet and recordings. Panditji’s scores for Mrinal Sen’s ‘Bhuvan Shome’, painter M.F. Hussain’s ‘Through the Eyes of a Painter’ and Mrinal Sen’sl ‘Oka Oori Kadha’ in Telugu are a few examples of such brilliance. He worked as a music coordinator/musician for Richard Attenborough’s ‘Gandhi’. As a poet, Panditji has published five well- received anthologies of poems and short stories in English and Telugu.

వారి సంగీతవిజయాలు అసంఖ్యేయాలు. రిచర్డ్ ఆటెన్ బరో గారి "గాంధీ" ఆంగ్లచిత్రానికి ఆయన music coordinator గా పనిచేసిన సంగతి, అందులోని మనసులకు హత్తుకొనిపోయే ఫ్లూట్ బిట్ విషయం చాలామందికి తెలియదు. ఆ చిత్రనిర్మాణంతర్వాత శ్రీ ఆటెన్ బరో గారు వీరి ప్రతిభను మెచ్చుకొంటూ వ్రాసిన లేఖ ఒక జాతీయ పురస్కారానికన్నాఎంతో విలువైన దనిపిస్తుంది.

మృణాళ్ సేన్ గారి "భువన్ షోమ్" చిత్రానికిజాతీయ సంగీత దర్శకునిగా ప్రభుత్వ పురస్కారాన్ని అందుకోవటం; ఎం.ఎఫ్. హుసేన్ గారు నిర్మించిన అజరామరమైన దృశ్యకావ్యం "Through the eyes of a painter "చిత్రానికి ఆయన అంతర్జాతీయ గోల్డెన్ బేర్ సంగీత దర్శక పురస్కారాన్నిగెలుపొందటం; రుడ్యార్డ్కిప్లింగ్ "జంగిల్బుక్" చిత్రానికి సంగీత రచన; తెలుగులో మృణాళ్ సేన్ గారి "ఒక వూరి కథ"కుఇచ్చిన అద్భుతమైన సంగీతం;"రెయిన్ బో" సంగీత ప్రయోగం; జెకోస్లావియన్ భారతీయ-పాశ్చాత్య సంహితాత్మక సంగీత సమ్మేళనాలు; ఆయన కనిపెట్టినహిందూస్తానీ కొత్త రాగాలు వంటివి ఇంటర్నెట్ లో లేకపోవటం వల్ల చాలా విశేషాలు ఈనాటి యువతీ యువకులకు తెలియకపోవటంలో ఆశ్చర్యంలేదు.
